RAINING TOAST by The Toasters
20 x 28cm original spray paint stencil on card
ABOUT THE ARTIST: “In a kitchen at a house party in Wolverhampton on New Years Eve 1998, three people came up with the idea of getting a specific image of a toaster famous. Essentially a tag, but instead of a word, a symbol. The Toaster project was born.
How to get some famous that means nothing at all, or does it? They put it on stickers, paste ups and painted stencils of it. All before the term ‘Street Art’ had been created.
As the project grew, they put the Toaster image on flags in football stadiums, at cricket grounds and at the Glastonbury Festival. They put the image all over the globe, the rule being only they could put the Toaster up, so if you see a Toaster you know it’s been placed by 1 of 3 people.”
